Facebook sneaks in ads, more and more of them. Yes, there is the Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox that can make them disappear but first you need to identify them as advertisement. This morning on Facebook I looked at Tara Hunt's valuable essay about women and the Social Web. I was pointed to this text by Beth Kanter who saved it to FB. Below, there were other friend status updates and then among all of that appeared a message from the US Army, dropped in as if by recommendation of a friend.

There is a strand in the history of the commercial Web that opts for the separation of content and advertising. That, for example, was the idea behind the popup ad (however much that misfired is another question). Content from advertisers should be clearly identified, Facebook!!
